A village of history, live entertainment on two stages, fun craft and food vendors and pontoon rides were held to celebrate the arrival of Jamestowns replica sailing ship, the historic Godspeed, in Stafford.

One of the ways that the Patawomeck Indian Tribe is keeping the TRIBAL HERITAGE ALIVE is through the making of Dugout canoes. In 2006 Tribal member, Buddy White Cloud Jett, crafted two dugouts from an enormous 90 ft. poplar tree taken down by a great wind on Medicine Wheel Hill. He named them "KAOKEE" for the daughter of Pocahontas and Patawomeck warrior, Kocoum... and "ONTONAH" for the Patawomeck Indian girl orphaned by the war of 1666 at the "BATTLE OF BULL'S BLUFF" when the English Governor of Virginia ordered the Colonial Militia to "exterminate all Indians within reach" and declared war on the Patawomecks "to their utter destruction" with Patawomeck women and children to be "sold into servitude".

Many of our Tribal members descend from the blood lines of Kaokee and Ontonah, who survived this tragic massacre of our People, and these two dugouts canoes are named to SHOW HONOR to these two Patawomeck Indian ancestors You can see our 17 foot Patawomeck dugout, "KAOKEE", in action on her Maiden Voyage on the Rappahannock River (Fredericksburg June Faire Festival) by clicking on the photo above.

Both, Kaokee and our 31 foot long "Ontonah" dugout have been among our Tribal focal points at several events where weve set up our 1600's era PATAWOMECK TRIBAL VILLAGE. In 2007, Gordon Silver and Buddy Jett paddled "KAOKEE" out to greet the "JOHN SMITH SHALLOP" (Historic Replica Ship) when it arrived in port at Fredericksburg on it's historic voyage to commemorate the "400 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF JAMESTOWN They paddled two circles around the shallop as it was approaching the dock - a tribute to Kaokee's speed and agility.

Long house, dug-out canoes, corn grinding, flint napping, eel pots, hide tanning, and much more were displayed at the White Oak Civil War Museum.

The Patawomeck Tribe was asked to participate in the Economic Landscapes of the Tidewater: An Institute for Teachers of VA and US History held at Stratford Hall in Westmoreland County, VA. The conference was held to prepare the teachers better for the required SOL testing. The teachers had very old information about the first Native Americans encountered by the colonists back in the 1600s, still thought there was only 8 tribes recognized in VA, and were very interested in our Tribal Members demonstrations and hung onto every word from Lesser Chief Gary Cooke's stories. We have been invited back to next year's conference.

Members of the Patawomeck Tribe helped Stafford County with the making of a video history of Stafford County called "Our American History". This video went to be judged in Houston, Texas, airing with videos from all over the country. "Our American History" was voted #1!

The 4th Annual Spaghetti Fundraiser was held at Bethel Baptist Church from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. The spaghetti was delicious, and the music from SONRISE and the White Oak Ramblers was great! It was a wonderful evening of fellowship, food, and entertainment. The proceeds benefited the building fund this year.

The 9th Annual Craft Show was held at Bethel Baptist Church from 9:00am until 3:00pm. There were a variety of crafts available to purchase as well as homemade BBQ, Brunswick Stew, and hot dogs. Let's not forget all the scrumptious bake sale items. It was a fun event that turned out to be our most successful Craft Show yet!

The 5th Annual Fundraiser was held at the Patawomeck Tribal Center from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. It was an outdoor event. The barbeque and hotdogs were delicious, and the music from SONRISE and Jeff Stone & The Virginia Gospel Singers was great! It was a wonderful evening of fellowship, food, and entertainment. The proceeds benefited the Tribe this year.

The 11th Annual Patawomeck Craft Show was held at the Patawomeck Tribal Center from 9:00am until 3:00pm. It was an outdoor event. There was a variety of crafts available to purchase as well as Brunswick Stew (back by popular demand). This was our BEST craft show yet! Great attendance, great food, and the best volunteer workers in the world!

The Patawomeck Rabies Clinic was held at the Patawomeck Tribal Center from 3:00pm until 6:00pm. It was an outdoor event sponsored and conducted by P&S Sportsman's Club. Thanks to all who came and had their dogs vaccinated! Special thanks to Dr. Newman at Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital for another successful rabies clinic.

The 1st Annual Tribal Picnic was held at the our new Patawomeck Tribal Center from 3:00pm until 6:00pm. It was an outdoor event. We had over 300 tribal members in attendance. Special guests included, from the Wolfe Creek Cherokee, Chief Price, his wife Annette and daughter Denise. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship, food, and music.

Our tribal members created an immersive experience for the Fairgoers. The dug-out canoe and the longhouse are impressive by themselves, but add tribal members working the village while informing visitors of our heritage and culture; and other members filling the air with the harmonious sounds of the flute and drums while another is dancing along makes it a very special experience.
